Jameswood Homes is a Silver Sponsor of the ENMAX SolAbode

In 2009 Jameswood Homes was a proud Silver Sponsor of the Enmax SolAbode, Calgary’s first entry into the US Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon.

The Solar Decathlon is an international competition where university and college students from around the globe compete to “design, build and operate the most attractive, practical and energy-efficient solar-powered home.” Only 20 teams are selected to bring their home to the National Mall in Washington. In 2009 Team Alberta was one of those teams.

Jameswood Homes proudly provided construction knowledge and assistance in the construction of the floor joists, framing and the siding for Team Alberta’s Enmax SolAbode home.

US Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon entrants are judged on;

• Affordability, consumer appeal, attractiveness and ease of living
• Maintaining comfortable and healthy indoor environmental conditions
• Supplying solar energy to the household appliances for cooking, cleaning and entertainment
• The ability of the home to provide adequate hot water
• Produce as much or more solar energy than it consumes.

SolAbode placed 6th overall and Jameswood Homes would like to congratulate the students from University of Calgary, Sait Polytechnic, Mount Royal College and the Alberta College of Art & Design who formed “Team Alberta”.

The team has transferred the house to ENMAX and SolAbode was showcased at the Vancouver Olympics.
ENMAX will be setting it up at a permanent location shortly.
