Best Renovation Without An Addition - Finalist
This beautiful Brittania home was almost completely remodeled. The owners required an entire upgrade to the main floor, upstairs and basement.
The existing home was fragmented. The transformation resulted in an open plan while retaining formal and informal definitions.
The family room was converted to a formal dining room with a fireplace. Warm and inviting colours were used. Wide baseboard and cornice molding are featured throughout the dining room and living room.
The dining room is joined by a more formal living room area with custom built in bookshelves lining the walls.
The casual family room ceiling was vaulted to create an open feeling. To create this vaulted ceiling, the existing structure had to be modified by realigning bearing locations.
The kitchen was completely redone. (This kitchen is our nomination for Best Kitchen Renovation.)
To redefine the front elevation and to provide a contemporary solution while masking the 1970's facade, we introduced the barrel vaulted roof over the front entrance and detailed the existing columns. We modernized the windows, added a custom front door and articulated the windows on the second floor to provide visual interest to the elevation.
